Book review: Rogue Rider

Eternal RiderRogue Rider

Description:
The prophecies were there but no one listened. Until now. They are the Lords of Deliverance and they have the power to ward off Doomsday . . . or let it ride.

Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues – and falls for – a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man that Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he’s also the kind of man that can be very dangerous . . .

Reseph may not know his background, or why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian’s life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian’s neighbours are killed and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he’s putting Jillian in danger. And once it’s revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world with death and destruction, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?

After Ares’s side of the story, I was eager to jump to Reseph’s story. Yeah I’m like that, don’t judge, heheh. If you haven’t already, read Ares’s review (eternal rider) first before reading this one, it’ll make a lot more sense with me ranting out there.
So… The evil pestilence changed to the sweet loving Reseph in this last book of the series. After all the gruesome evil he has done, I wanted to know what would happen to him. Forgiven, or not. I vote forgiven, because that’s how paranormal romance books normally go… Oh yeah, don’t forget the mate part :P
Because I read this fourth book first and skipped the third, I got to know the twist and turns that I missed and I’m glad because I’m impatient and there seems to be a lot of twists in the third book.

So it goes like that…
Ares’s book: Sweet loving
Limos’s book: Thick plot
Thanatos: Twists and turns
Reseph: Hope and end

In the story, Reseph was rid of pestilence and he sort of became himself again. He met Jillian who was kind enough to ‘save him’ and… The first part of the book was soooooo sweet! Here’s an example:

Smoke drifted out of the sink, billowing up around a stream of rushing water. “Oh, uh… hi.” Reseph shot her a sheepish grin over his shoulder. “I tried to make you breakfast.”

Aww can anyone be cuter!

Anyway, in the end, Reseph got to have an important piece of evil, and a piece of heaven to make him powerful enough to defeat Lucifer. Well, and he did! In a scene of mental turmoil, tornado, gates opening…etc… And let’s not forget the courageous Jillian. Didn’t really like it though, it was over in a few. I was like, what? That’s it? That’s how Lucifer is defeated? =.=

Okay so anyway, evil watcher Harvester…. Shit that brought tears to my eyes. I mean, I was hating her for 2 books long and now she’s the goodie angel? I’m so hurt. Then again, this is one of the twists that I’m not going to elaborate. You’ll know it if you read it.

I’m so glad the fourth book is coming up, and this time, my best guesses Reaver with Harvester. He’s been feeling for her since the second book. I want them to be happy. Ever. Both of them did the most work in the series. One fathered and one sacrificed. And with Pestilence controlled and Lucifer gone, I’m willing to bet Satan is coming up next. Gosh, I can’t wait!

I give this book a 4/5.

It’s story is quite long. I read the second book (immortal rider) first before reading this book, so… I’ve a lot in my head right now. Too much to absorb yeah, and I’m blaming myself for not reading according to the series.
Anyway, after reading Immortal Rider, I did not like that book very much. Mostly because the plot develops thickly in that book and I was quite confused at some point. I re-read some stuff to get the story right, and after finishing the whole 2nd book, I decided that I would very much like to read more into Ares and Thanatos. Because I didn’t like Limos’s part of the series, I didn’t want to review it, no point. Instead, here’s my review for Ares :)

Lords of deliverance series:
First book: Ares (war)
Second book: Limos (famine)
Third book: Thanatos (death)
Fourth book: Reseph (pestilence)

I’ll try my best. It’s a long story (and series) with awesome plot and stuff.
Cara has a rare ability even as human. She can communicate with animals and heal them easier than others. She stopped healing after an accident where her hidden power killed an attacker. Until she met, Ares, the horseman of war, she has been feeling guilty for so long.
Ares is one of the horsemen for apocalypse, and he’s drawn to war just like Limos is drawn to famine and etc. yeah.
So he ‘found’ Cara, brought her with him, and she ends up getting his Argi-dunno-what -sigh- and the story revolves around trying to protect the seal that, if broken, would bring upon war and Ares becoming evil …
In the end, Cara had some help from hellhounds and… She became immortal like she was meant to be from the moment she was born with this gift. (We all know how paranormal romance ends, yeah?) :P
P.s. Would love to own a hellhound. You gotta see how they are described in the fourth book. Like the best pets, really.

Well written. I give this book a 5/5.

Book Review: His Purrfect Mate

His Purrfect MateHis Purrfect Mate

Description:

Shannon is a quarter puma but can’t shift. She’s just a human with a few extra genes. But she knows how dangerous shifters are and now she’s their prey, captured by a group of werewolves for a deadly hunt. Then she’s rescued by the biggest werewolf of them all. He’s the sexiest male she’s ever seen-jet-black hair, muscular body, piercing dark eyes and a growl that heats her blood.
Anton’s body responds fervently to Shannon and he vows to protect her with his life-only to discover she’s the enemy. As the future alpha of his pack, Anton knows a cat will never be accepted. There’ll be hell to pay. But it’s mating heat, and he’s about to lose all control to that driving sexual need. His wolf wants her, can smell her desire. There’s no way to stop it now-his animal won’t be denied.

Title: His Purrfect Mate
Author: Laurann Dohner
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Fantasy, Romance
Published May 18th 2011 by Ellora’s Cave

Note: Contains spoilers, sorry!

Whoa. Steamy, hot, and… WET :P Dohner (author) does not disappoint me at all. I love her writing style, and she will always be on my favorite authors list! Finished the book in a day. I’m so thankful that Sharon isn’t the whiny type of woman that makes me cringe. I liked her character, not too weak, not too strong, and just right for her mate, Anton.

So, dogs and cats are natural enemies (the book says). Shannon, part puma, is fearful of wolves, and runs up anything by instinct when she’s frightened. Here is an excerpt:

She couldn’t break free of the hold on her arm and she couldn’t get up the tree. She needed to climb, needed to get higher, out of the wolf’s reach, and her instincts screamed in a painful blast of strong awareness. She spun, faced Anton, and before she could stop herself, grabbed him. Her hand gripped his shoulder and she jumped, her body hit his much large one. To her horror she wrapped around him, clinging to his body with every ounce of strength she had. Her legs squeezed around his waist and her face buried into his neck.

Anton Harris is next in line to be Alpha, is very protective of his kitten. Such an endearing name. The story is quite short, but Dohner keeps you engaged until the end. Just imagine really hot sex scenes on every few pages, I can’t really describe it in detail because then I’ll really be spoiling it for you. It’s that good yeah. However, it was just too simple for the alpha bitch to be subdued like that. She was just sent away without any resistance, like, what? I wanted more, more, more. Then it ended. -Sigh-

I give this book a 5/5. Yes, I really enjoyed reading it.
